Miranda C Smith

Our blog for this month features the wonderfully talented ceramic artist Miranda C Smith

For many years we have stocked the most adorable collection of animal ceramics by Miranda, her very special hand painted china figures are incredibly popular and have such universal appeal. It just goes to show how many animal lovers there are in the world; so whether you adore cats, dogs, bunnies, cheetahs or even hippos Miranda will probably have a beautiful figurine in her collection for you.

After such a long association we thought it was about time we learnt a little bit more about the lady behind these delightful creations; so Miranda sent us  a short biography and a lovely photograph here is her story ……

From a large family of six children she was the eldest daughter . Even at an early age she was extremely artistic loved to draw, paint and make clay models. After leaving school at sixteen her first job was an assistant in a boutique but she found the work dull and boring and left after just six months to pursue a more creative career. Luckily a position became available with the English artist Basil Matthews, for seven years she trained and worked with him and developed her own style as a ceramic artist.

In 1979 Miranda set up her own business and started to create her splendid collection of china animal figures.

The range has extended over the years, each figure is still individually hand crafted in fine earthenware china, delicately hand painted and signed by Miranda. Every piece is truly unique and the charming  characterization is definitely a little bit of animal magic. They make wonderful gifts to treasure or beautiful decorative ornaments to enhance the home and are addictively collectable.

Some of our most popular figures are the large Cheetahs and for children the Owl & Pussy Cat . Please click links to view: PAIR OF CHEETAHS
